Question: Can my daughter’s father, who doesn’t have custody, claim her on his income tax for the child tax credit?
He pays 50 a month to welfare because I am on assistance temporarily. He’s only paid for two months. I have full custody, but my husband goes to school full time, no job, and I am not in school because I am in my 3rd trimester. Can he claim her and receive the large child credit? Does he need my permission to claim her? Does anyone know where I can get these questions answered?
Answer: You could sign IRS form 8332 and give him permission to claim her as long as he’s her biological father, but if he doesn’t have any tax liability, claiming her wouldn’t do anything for him. The child tax credit only subtracts from the taxes the person owes, they don’t get any extra back. So if he doesn’t have a job, and doesn’t owe tax, there’s no credit either. If you don’t have any earned income, then claiming her wouldn’t do anything for you either.

Question: Should SAHM’s who live off government assistance be forced to work?
I don’t think its fair that women with multiple kids get to sit on their butts all day and leech off the system while we all have to work 9 to 5 jobs and pay taxes to support people like this. My boyfriend’s sister has 2 kids under 3 years old and she does this. She claims its because she would rather have her kids be raised by her than at a daycare center, which does make sense, but I feel like she should have thought of this BEFORE she was careless and got knocked up by 2 different men who had no intention of sticking around. I think women in this situation should be required to work at home at the very least. The rest of the country should not have to spend their hard earned money on lazy irresponsible people. What are your thoughts on this?

Question: What makes people think the government should help financially?
Who started the crazy idea that government should help disaster victims, provide assistance to poor people, subsidize farmers, offer tax incentives, bail out corporations, plan for retirement, or provide health care?
Those all sounds like personal/local non-governmental projects to me.
Answer: You also have to take into consideration that whenever the government provides those things for someone, it must take money from someone else first. Government doesn’t produce anything, it only takes.
