Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Program

Question: Property Tax Assistance for Senior Citizens?
Just wondering what programs are available for Senior Citizens to get help on their property taxes. Either nationally or in New Jersey.
My mother’s town said she has to wait until she is 67 to be eligible for a deduction of $250 per year.
Considering that her 2008 taxes are $8700 and they do go up annually, this is a pathetic less than 3% reduction. Also, she isn’t eligible this year.
She barely makes $25k per year and she has just hit 65 – not to mention that she still has to pay a mortgage on the house at this time. Right now she needs to work so we’re looking for any help she may qualify for right now to help her hang on until she turns 67 and is eligible for a little bit more social security.
I appreciate any help/ideas/suggestions you may have.*at this time, moving is not an option. But she is planning to relocate once the market picks up and she is able to retire.
Answer: Nationally, none. Many states have programs for people who qualify, often using age and income.
