I bought a house in houston texas 5 months ago (2007), and I am not living in that house yet; my mom and younger brothers live there. I pay for mortgage, also I live in Austin currently and I pay for apartment rent. my question is can I fill my tax as the head of household (I am single ) .

Question: 160000$ House annual income & getting 30000$ on Tax Refund???!!!?
My husband’s cousin just told us that he got 30000$ on tax refund and they had 160000$ house annual income? How can that be possible? They live in Maryland, USA and they have 2 kids … they don’t live a crazy lifestyle…. they just own a split level home that they bought 5 years ago for 215000$ and they own another house which they have renters (which they bought it for investment?) …but they still pay another 300-400$ extra a month…… I just want to know if this is any possible…. or are they just lying?

He could have had too much withholding from his paycheck (in which case he should adjust his W-4), he could have overpaid estimated payments or extension payments.

I was married September 1st, but previous to that I was considered head of household because I was a single mama. I did change my w-2 after we got married and I’m not sure how our taxes this year will work. Is there a certain length of time during the year that corelates to me still being able to file head of household, just this one last time?
Answer: NOPE> Your choices are MFJ or MFS as you were married on 12/31/07 and together. Generally HOH and MFJ are same tax brackets, so there would be no advantage to that for you, anyway. You pool your incomes and investments and credits and deductions.
