Question: Why do we call it matrimony?
We live in a patriarical system, the woman takes the mans name in most cases, and the head of the household is commonly a male presence?And Im not asking about womens lib stuff… we have had a historical ‘patriarichal’ system of union.

Answer: Hmmm…Perhaps is more the root of the word rather than the implication of it?
Here is what I found:
The word Matrimony splits as Matyr + Mony.
The root “matyr” comes from Latin which means “mother”.“Mony” means “Result of state”. When the meaning of these two words combines gives the meaning Mother is the result of state Marriage and thus Matrimony implies Marriage.

I sort of agree with you though, that given the fact that we come from a Patriarchy it is odd to base the “union” from a female-only ability (motherhood) term.
But it seems that historically men have not needed to be “of state” to hold their own wouldn’t you agree? Whereas (unfortunately) women have needed men to give them a voice.

Answer: Everyone is correct that it really doesn’t matter as long as it was sent to the IRS but I just wanted to add that you can check the status of your refund for a little piece of mind. Go to the IRS page and click Where’s my refund link. You need to fill in your SS, filing status and refund amount and they will let you know if they received your tax return and when you should expect your refund.
