Sales Tax Refund In Usa

Question: Can I get sales Tax Refund???

I am plannning to buy a laptop for my cousins in Australia and I heard that I can claim sales tax refund as product is not to be used in USA. Can anyone give me more details, How can I do that?

Answer: Sales taxes are claimed on your Schedule A (If you own your home, or pay Real Estate taxes, this is where sales taxes are deductible, but only for Cars, Boats or home building materials.) The alternative is keeping ALL your receipts for the year and adding up all your sales tax for the year to put in this area of the form instead of any state income tax paid.

Sales Tax Refund From Canada

Question: I shopped in the US and paid the Canadian sales tax at the border. How do I get a NY state sales Tax Refund?

When I crossed the border back into Canada from NY state, I declared my purchases and paid Ontario sales tax (and GST) on my purchases. Since I paid NY state sales tax at time of purchase, can I get a refund, since I’ve paid sales tax twice?

Answer: If you are a US citizen or resident, then it is not refundable.
If you are a tourist, then on many items sales tax (and GST) is refundable. Normally, people take refund before crossing the border. How you can claim now, I don’t know.
