Filing Taxes And Divorce
Question: From a tax filing point of view, am I considered legally separated by having filed for divorce?
My husband and I separated in Dec. 2006. I finally filed for divorce (that he asked for) in March 2007 in our home state of California. He and I have not lived together as husband and wife since the separation, but the divorce is far from being final. Are we considered legally separated and can I file my 2007 taxes as single or head of household? Or must I still file married filing separately?
Answer: No, you are not considered legally separated unless you have a decree of divorce or separate maintenance. You must file as MFS. You may file as HoH if you qualify for that status but you may NOT file as Single.

Service Tax Refund Procedure

Question: TDS – at reduced rate for a mobile Tower Company is possible?
TDS – at reduced rate
Posted:
Mobile Tower , Mumbai company a service provider has set up Tower on our Bldg . They have been deducting the TDS s at the normal rate of 20%. Consequently, the TDS on receipts and the tax paid by us will be more than the tax liability. This necessitates huge refund by the IT department. Can we approach the IT Dept to permit the deduction of TDS at a lesser rate so that in the remaining months the TDS amount would be less and would also reduce the refund liability by the IT dept. If yes, what is the procedure? To whom to approach? Is there any format or form prescribed for the purpose? I shall be grateful for a reply.Answer: Apply in Form no.13 to your Income Tax officer.

Tax Refund Complaint

Question: What’s the dumbest complaint you’ve gotten from a customer?
work at A&W. Some of my favorites:
The reciept machine was broken, so I told the customer he could wait a minute for his reciept or just get his food now and have no reciept. He demanded a refund.
Customer ordered fries with a burger. Complained that the fries were old (they were a new batch) but we made him a new set anyway. Then, he gave us a long lecture on how much we sucked. Once he done, he realized that his burger had gotten cold after complaining for 10 minutes. So he asked for a new one.
“My brother ate my burger. Can I have a new one?”
Customer ordered a meal for $7.99. After paying by credit card, she noticed the $7.99 didn’t include tax. So of course she accused us of false advertising.
Customer ordered a meal, then a refund because he “wouldn’t be able to eat it before his friends left.”
“Get me a new cashier. This one looks too much like my ex-wife.”
Customer ordered a cheeseburger, than complained when we didn’t have vegan cheese.
Your turn.
Answer: I have a dumb cashier story:
Once I went to Round Table with a friend, and we asked the cashier to split the bill for us.
He was like, “I need a calculator for that, and I don’t have one.”
I asked, “How much is it again?”
“18.66″
“Oh, so 9.33?”Idiot.

Property Tax Refund Minnesota

Paying property taxes to your city, town, or county is part of a home owner’s responsibilities. Property taxes are computed based on your home’s assessed value. Don’t get confused because the assessed value and appraised value are two different things. To make it simple, the appraised value is simply the market value of a property in today’s market while the assessed value is used by taxing authorities to put a dollar value in the property for taxing purposes.
Most states do offer a property tax reduction for Veterans.
Though each state has its own guidelines, most states measure property taxes by mils (one mil means $1 for every $1,000 value of a home). So for example, if you have a house worth $100,000 with a 3.5 mil property tax the owner will have to pay $3.50 for every $1,000 in value or simply $350. However, regardless of how these taxes are computed, a home owner owes this amount to the government. If you have a mortgage, some lenders require monthly property tax payments as part of the mortgage payments. If this is not your case, then your town will ask you to pay property taxes every 3-6 months wherein you have to pay in full on its due date.
Check with your local taxing authority to find out more.
However, under certain circumstances, more than 30 states have given local property tax relief to veterans. Though not all towns or cities participate, most of the time, veterans can receive a break on property taxes. Property tax relief may come in different forms – like exemptions, abatements, frozen assessment rates, or direct rebates on taxes. New York, for instance, has a number of property tax exemptions for veterans. In South Carolina, a veteran receives an exemption on the first $50,000 of the assessed value. In Maryland, veterans with service-related disabilities receive full exemption from paying property tax liability.
Since each state, town, or city’s guidelines on property tax exemptions for veterans vary, it is best to consult someone from your state’s Department of Revenue office to learn more.
