Question: What tax table to use for 2006, 2007 amended return?
I have to file 1040x to amend returns for calendar years 2006, and 2007, which tax tables should I use to figure out the tax due, the tables for the previous years i.e. 2006,2007 or the tables for the last year i.e. 2008
Answer: You can paper file an amendment form (1040X), this form is available on the IRS website (http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc308.html), you would have fill this form and mail it in since the IRS does not accept this form through e-file.

Question: Where can I ask about my missing New York State Tax Refund?
I filed in February. I was given numbers to call and still no refund. I visited the website and still no refund. Anyone know a number to call where I can get a person on the phone or an address to write to? Thanks!
Answer: 1-800-443-3200. That is the phone number from the New York Dept of Revenue. I have attached the link to it to my answer. You’ll need your social security number, filing status, and exact whole dollar amount of your refund.

Question: How long is it going to take to get NYS Tax Refund?
I filed my New York State taxes on 1-16 e-filed and did direct deposit and to this day have not received my refund. You can not call them because they are not taking refund calls and the refund status on the web site only says we have received your taxes and are processing them check back in a week. I have been checking for 5 weeks and it says the same thing. My boss e-filed and had a check mailed to him and he got it last weekend. What is up with this?
Answer: In past years, NY state has often delayed paying tax refunds when cash was tight. This is nothing new. NY state will never admit it, but the consensus is that this is related to the end of the state’s fiscal year. The NY state income tax refund flow tends to drop to a trickle in February and March, and then go back to normal after the new fiscal year starts on April 1. The larger your refund, the more likely they will delay payment.

BTW, the best solution is to reduce your withholding or estimated tax payments next year so that you owe NY state a small amount in April, rather than making them an interest-free loan throughout the year.
