No Income Tax Canada

No Income Tax Canada

Question: Is it possible to transfer a gift receipt for tax purposes in Canada?

Last Christmas I decided that rather than giving my family things they didn’t want or need I would give a donation in their honour to some very worthy charities. However, all the tax receipts were made out in my name because it was my credit card used. Is it possible according to Canadian tax laws to transfer these receipts to my family who actually received them as gifts? I have no use for them because my income bracket isn’t high enough for me to pay taxes (I’m a student.)

Thanks for your help!

Answer: Donations with your name on can be used either by you or by your spouse or common-law partner. They cannot be transferred to any other person.

Contact the charity and see if they will re-issue the receipts in the names you specify.

Question: Why haven’t I gotten my money yet but my fiancee did?

OK a little details. I filed head of household and claimed our child. We filed on the same day (the 22nd) by the night of the 24th we got e-mails saying it was accepted. On the following Tuesday (the 26th) it said that we would get it by Feb 9th. On Thurs (Feb 28th) his said it was scheduled to be deposited the first of Feb. He got it Jan 29th. Mine still says that I should receive it by Feb 9th and I keep checking my bank account and it’s not in there. Why is it taking so long for mine? Does it make a difference that mine is a lot more?

Answer: Yours is taking longer because you are claiming Earned Income Credit.

She draws Social Security Retirement benefits. I am a widow and work a full time job. Can I claim Mother on my taxes? Claim Head of Household? Is her SS benefits taxable?

Answer: Yes, yes and yes. If you do your own taxes you’ll need to learn the rules that apply. If you have some one do taxes for you let them know what’s happening. You’ll need to provide proof of support.
