Tax Refund Address

Tax Refund Address

Question: How does address show up on Tax Refund?

Ex called informing me that their quarterly taxes were done and the “accountant made a mistake” . Informed that accountant filed on ‘05 taxes and that both our names are on the refund that I need to be looking for. The catch is…my current address wasn’t even in excistance during ‘05….this is a new residence.
supposedly both our names are on this refund…how did that happen, how did this accountant get my address??? etc…this is their quarterly taxes and ex owns own business….just curious

Answer: The refund will be sent to the address the IRS has on file for the taxpayer. This may be the old address. If that is the case, you may still get it at your current address as long as you had your mail forwarded with the post office from the old address within the last year.

Whoever is the taxpayer on the refund can call the IRS to verify the address it was sent to. They will also instruct you on what to do if it was the old address.

File Tax Extension

File Tax Extension

Question: Have anybody used Turbo Tax to e-file a tax extension?

Hi, everyone, I recently used the Turbo Tax Extension Express to e-file a tax extension. Five days have passed since then, and the status of my e-filing shows only that the filing has been accepted by IRS. It is said “accepted”, not “approved”. That makes me confused because I have no idea whether “accepted” = “approved”, or “accepted” = “received” ?

Answer: I used FileLater (http://filelater.com) to file my extension. The email I got said “accepted” but the wording was very clear that “accepted” meant “approved” because there was mention that my new filing deadline was officially October 15th… so you’re probably all set.

Question: I did not do my taxes or file an extension. What will happen and what are the consequences?

I am really scared because we did not do out taxes because we did not have the money to pay them. What will happen to us?

Answer: peachygurl86 has a good answer. File as soon as possible. If you owe money, the penalty for not filing is 5% per month, plus 0.5% for not paying, PLUS the interest comounded DAILY. If you file, you only pay the non-payment penalty of 0.5% plus the interest. The person who advised you not to worry about it because IRS is slow to catch up was LUCKY. If IRS thinks you owe them, they can lien your property, levy bank accounts and garnish wages. On top of that, if it happens you are entitled to a refund, the statute of limitations will prevent you from collecting it if your return is filed more than two years late. It’s far better to come clean and work with them, than to wait for them to come to you.

File Tax Id Number

File Tax Id Number

Question: Getting a tax id for income from last year?

I do not have a tax id number. I just starting selling handpoured candles but I’m not really making much money at it. Is it too late to get a tax id and file for income and expenses from last year? Right now the expenses outweigh the income by far. Do I have to get a tax id if I never make a profit (it’s more of a hobby than a business)?

Answer: You do not need to get a GST tax number if you make less than $30,000 in a year. If you just got started, I doubt you made that much.

You can see more info about who needs a GST tax number, and how to register for one in the future here:

Tax File Number Application In Australia

Tax File Number Application In Australia

Question: Tax File Number – Victoria, Australia?!?!?!?

We put in our tax file number application forms at school on Friday and they said it could take a few months till we actually get our numbers.

I was just wondering whether you are able to get a part time job before you get the number?

Thanks heaps! =]

Answer: A couple of things…
1. Because you’re under 18, your employer will not have to withhold any amounts from your pay if they are not more than $112 (if you’re paid weekly), $225 (if you’re paid fortnightly) or $489 (if you’re paid monthly). If this is the case, whether you have a tax file number or not is irrelevant.
2. If your payments are likely to be over these amounts, your employer has a ‘grace’ period of 28 days (the time it normally takes to process your tax file number) in which they don’t have to withhold tax from your pay at the highest marginal tax rate (46.5%), if you indicate on your tax file number declaration form that you have applied for a tax file number. After this period, if you haven’t supplied your tax file number your employer must withhold tax at 46.5% from your pay (but you will probably get this back at the end of the year anyway).

Hope that makes sense.
