Question: Purchasing Cloths Online?
Hey, I want to buy some cloths on American Eagle. I currently live in Vancouver, Canada, and see some cloths on there site. It says if you spend $100 or more, shipping is free. Even to Canada. But…
I was wondering how much it will be for taxes and duty. It says:
I hereby authorize Russell A. Farrow Limited to act as my agent, (for customs purposes only) and to transact business with Revenue Canada to clear my merchandise, pay duties and taxes, handle any merchandise returns and file refund claims on my behalf. So how much will they bill me for it? I need to get the cloths soon, so this will really help.

Question: Is it possible to transfer a gift receipt for tax purposes in Canada?
Last Christmas I decided that rather than giving my family things they didn’t want or need I would give a donation in their honour to some very worthy charities. However, all the tax receipts were made out in my name because it was my credit card used. Is it possible according to Canadian tax laws to transfer these receipts to my family who actually received them as gifts? I have no use for them because my income bracket isn’t high enough for me to pay taxes (I’m a student.)
Thanks for your help!
Answer: Donations with your name on can be used either by you or by your spouse or common-law partner. They cannot be transferred to any other person.
Contact the charity and see if they will re-issue the receipts in the names you specify.

Question: How do I file taxes on income in the United States and Canada from one year?
I moved to Canada from the United States in July for a job. I worked half the year in the United States and the other half in Canada. How do I file taxes on this? Do I file taxes on my American income in the US and my Canadian income in Canada or both in one?
Answer: As a new resident in Canada, you should read this CRA booklet: Newcomers to Canada
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4055/t4055-e.html
You file a Canadian tax return declaring your income since you arrived in Canada.
If you are a US citizen or green card holder, you file a 1040 for the ENTIRE YEAR, and declare and pay taxes on world income. You then receive a Foreign tax Credit on your US return for any taxes paid to Canada on Canadian income.
If you are neither, you file a 1040-NR and declare and pay taxes on your US income.
