Tax Filing Deadline Extension 2009

Question: How can I file two taxes?
For 2009 I miss the deadline of my extension to file my federal. This year I want to file both my 2009 and 2010 but I don’t know if there is a certain program I’m suppose to do that on. I’m sure turbo tax won’t let me file for 2009 & 2010. I was thinking just bring it to H&R Block or something but I want to know how if I can do it myself first to save me some time. Any help?
Answer: Do the years separately. You’ll have to mail 2009 – it’s too late to efile. 2009 must be on 2009 forms, not 2010 forms.

How To File Taxes After Extension

Question: When will I be audited because my child’s father claimed our daughter after I did?
I filed my taxes in February and, as per our agreement, I claimed my daughter on my taxes. Well, her father got an extension and filed in Oct. But he claimed her as well. He has his own business and I had earned income (I worked for someone not myself). Now I would like to know how long will it be before I am notified that I’m being audited. According to the new “rules” only one person is allowed to claim her and if they notice the same social being repeated, it flags something in the system. How is this done and how long does it take?
Answer: You won’t be audited, they will just send each of you a request for proof of eligibility. Since you have an agreement (in writing, I hope?) that says you get to claim her, submitting that will settle the issue. He may face fines for falsely claiming her, or they may just accept it as a mistake.

Efile Tax Extension
Question: If I efile today for an extension on my taxes, when they are complete can I still efile them?
In other words–does filing for an extension make it mandatory to mail in a physical return or can I still efile my return when complete, say next week or next month?
Answer: Usually you can e-file until about Oct 15.

Deadline For Filing Taxes After Extension
Question: Should I extend or amend my tax return to receive $8000 tax credit?
I’ll be buying a house after the tax deadline in April and I’m debating filing for an extension or amending my tax return later. I know amending can take 3 months sometimes to receive your payment, is it the same case if you file your tax return later with an extension? I would really prefer to receive my return within a couple weeks and not a couple months.
Talking 2008 return here.Answer: It’s your call. File Form 4868 for an automatic 6 month extension of time to file. If you’re not desperate for whatever refund might be due without the credit, going that route will dramatically speed the payment of the credit to you. We’re talking 2 weeks or so vs up to 16 weeks.
As long as you have a net refund due when you actually file there is no need to pay anything with the 4868, even if you have a calculated tax due at the moment. If you do, keep in mind that if the purchase falls through for any reason you may be looking at some penalties and interest for late payment.
