Question: I will be filing my income taxes and would like to know if I can claim my boyfriend as a dependent?
My boyfriend and I have been living together for the previous couple of years. May I claim as head of household since I have obtained higher gross income between us? Is there a possibility of claiming him as a dependent and what are the circumstances against or for this proposition?
Answer: No you can’t. The only time someone can claim head of household is if the have a qualifying relative (child, grandchild..etc) living in the home for more than 6 months that you are supporting.
If you have no children, you both can only claim single. No head of household.
