2009 Income Tax Refund Estimator

Question: how accurate is H&R block tax calculator?

I went on H&R block and did their 2009 tax estimator and it says that DH and I should get back a 7,419 dollar refund. He claims 0 so that we can get a bigger refund at the end of the year. We have two children(a daughter that’s 2 and a son that’s 11 weeks) so far his gross income is 11,088(laid off some of the year) and he’s paid in 1075 in taxes. We do not pay for childcare, I’m a SAHM, does this sound accurate? We really want to have a big refund since we are trying to pay cash for him a new(used) car

Answer: last two years it been with-in $20 so i’d say it pretty close.

Income Tax Filing For Previous Years

Income Tax Filing For Previous Years

Question: I will be filing my income taxes and would like to know if I can claim my boyfriend as a dependent?

My boyfriend and I have been living together for the previous couple of years. May I claim as head of household since I have obtained higher gross income between us? Is there a possibility of claiming him as a dependent and what are the circumstances against or for this proposition?

Answer: No you can’t. The only time someone can claim head of household is if the have a qualifying relative (child, grandchild..etc) living in the home for more than 6 months that you are supporting.

If you have no children, you both can only claim single. No head of household.

Gross Income And Social Security

Question: Write a program to print your net income after taxes, assuming your gross salary is $78,000, you have to pay?

Write aprogram to print your net income after taxes, assuming your gross salary is $78,000, you have to pay 7.5% in social security on the first $58,000 of income, your federal tax is $3000 plus 28% of all income over $30,000 and your state tax is 10% of your gross.

Answer: I wouldn’t write a program to do this…just some formulas in an Excel spreadsheet.

Follow along:
– In cell A1, type Gross Salary
– In cell B1, type in 78000
– In cell A1, type Social Security
– In cell B1, type in =IF(A1>58000,0.075*58000)
– In cell A1, type Federal Tax
– In cell B1, type in =3000+(A1-30000)*0.28
– In cell A1, type State Tax
– In cell B1, type in =0.1*A1
– In cell A1, type Net Income
– In cell B1, type in =B1-B2-B3-B4

These formulas work for you, and the information you gave me, but as a note for people that read this later, they will need to be adjusted for your state, tax bracket, etc.

Question: why doesn’t movies gross income go by amount of tickets sold? It should solve inflation value?

It always interest me how new big movies for example: Avatar, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spiderman, Titanic and etc.

They would compare each other gross value. The release of these movies are in different years and it is hard to tell which movie made more money due to inflation.

Why not go by the amount of tickets sold? If 3D and IMAX play a big role in figuring the numbers why not make different type of movie based off of a point system. (note not to scale its an example) I-MAX = 2 tickets 3D 1.5 Tickets regular 1 ticket.

Wouldn’t it help make it easier to identify which movie is superior in world wide?

Answer: If they rated movies by the number of tickets sold rather than the monetary value then none would ever get any top billing.

If I remember right the animated movie “Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs” has sold the highest number of tickets worldwide. But u must remember that it was first released in the 30′s and re-released over and over every few years until the era of videotape. Movies today are not re-released like that so they don’t have the advantage of the repeat cycle.
