Tax Refund Policy

Tax Refund Policy

Question: Is there any way to get UK Road Tax on my car without insurance documents?

I bought a car a few hours ago and have just realised that it does not have tax (well it still does as far as the DVLA are concerned, the previous owners must be sending the disc off to claim a refund but have not done so yet). I have fully comp insurance cover on the car, but no cover note or policy documents as of yet as I only took the cover out after buying the car. Is there any way I can get tax on the car without any of these? Or would the previous tax that the DVLA still has record of be valid for a few days (I go away on Monday and so wouldn’t need it for any longer than that)

Cheers
I already have every other document I need, just no cover note or insurance documents. The insurance was bought online with CIS, would there be any way I could prove I have insurance by asking them for an e-mail cover note or something like that?

Answer: Well, it is an offence to drive without a valid tax disc being shown, so it would not be the best idea to drive the vehicle until this is sorted.

As for getting car tax, you will need the documents to tax your vehicle, the post office and DVLA will not tax your vehicle without them. Furthermore, you will also need to have one of the following V5/V5C/V5C2(greenslip) in order to tax the vehicle as well as a valid MOT if applicable.
