Tax Refund Insulation

Question: Tax benefit of buying energy saving insulation in 2007? PLease answer quickly?

I heard 2007 is the last time you can declare energy saving purchases. I need to insulate my attic and short of running around like crazy today to compare prices..I wondered if anyone know what the tax benefit is. Home depot and Lowes “can’t asnwer” I have to talk to my tax advisor which of course is not in today. I will be insulating 1200 sq ft. Is it a refund on tax spent for this project or more? Thank you so much.

Answer: The credit is 10% of the total cost of the insulation but is adjusted based on deductions, income, phase of the moon, etc. In other words, the IRS complicated the tax credit to the point that it will cost you the value of the credit in either tax help or alcohol to fill out the forms. 2007 is the last year the credit is available but as I stated, the IRS has lived up to their reputation to making it so difficult no one will claim it. If you really want to claim a credit, I have attached the link to the IRS forms needed to claim it for residential.
