Uk Tax Refund How Long

Uk Tax Refund How Long

Question: I worked in the UK for 3 months. I am now leaving the UK,how can I claim the taxes back? How long will it take?

I have just left my job in the UK, I worked there for 3 months and since I had no P45 I was put in emergency tax code paying too many taxes. Now I am leaving permanently the UK and want to claim all the taxes back. What should I do? Can I have before the overpaid taxes back and afterwards the rest of them? How long will it take? And by which means will I have the refund?

Answer: You should fill in form P85 and attch parts 2 & 3 of your P45 from your employer. If you did not fill in the P86 when your arrived in the UK, you should do that aswell.

Your tax office can then review your records and see if you have overpaid any tax. You will only get a refund of any overpaid tax, not necessarily the total amount.

It is impossible to say how long it will take. Things are dealt with in date order so it depends how much work there is in your tax office.

You have to state how you want any repayment sending to you on the P85. You can give a UK bank account or it can be sent to any address.
