Tax Filing Extensions

Question: Filing tax extension for Fed and the states?
I need to file two states (worked in NYC and lived in NJ) and one federal tax.
I owe about 700 to NY because of unemployment benefit, and I should get back 1000 from federal government. These are my estimates I got from Taxact.
If I want to file an extension, would I have to pay for my NY state estimate? Btw, these states get automatic extensions if I just file the extension for fed.
Answer: Unfortunately an extension to file is not an extension to pay.
You have to submit the payment by 4/15 regardless of when you actually file your return.
