Virginia Taxes E-file

Question: what causes states not to accept tax returns via e-file?

Hello all. On Friday around 12 noon eastern time, i submitted by tax return for both federal and state (Virginia). I submitted them through Turbotax deluxe edition. 8:30ish that same night, the federal tax returns were accepted by the IRS. I am schedule to get a refund for both federal and state.

Virginia has yet to accept my tax return. Is there something wrong with my taxes or is Virginia being slow processing the return?

Answer: The State system is not as large and can take longer just to send you a receipt. Being accepted does not mean the processing has started either.

E-file, free file and other electronic options for 2010

Most taxpayers and tax preparers this year will use IRS e-file to file their federal tax returns or get extensions of time to file. During this process, they will not have to send a single scrap of paper to the Internal Revenue Service.
