Single Tax Filing Status

If a taxpayer is single or unmarried, he or she does not necessarily have to file his or her tax return as a single taxpayer. A single or unmarried taxpayer can qualify as a head of household and get many more tax benefits than a single taxpayer would. Below is a chart that shows how a single or unmarried taxpayer can qualify as a head of household.

If the taxpayer is single, then the following questions will help determine if he or she qualifies for the head of household filing status.
